Vehicle Damage & Accident Reports

After an accident: independent determination of repair costs, loss in value, loss of use and residual value. In an accident that was not your fault, the other party's insurer usually covers the cost.

Your right to an independent expert

After a traffic accident that was not your fault, you have the right to commission your own independent vehicle expert – you are not obliged to accept the expert appointed by the other party's insurer. In a third-party liability claim, the other party's insurer usually covers the cost of the report.

An independent damage report secures your claims in full: it documents the damage completely, calculates the repair costs correctly and lists items that are often overlooked in a garage's repair quote – such as the diminished market value or the loss of use.

Our vehicle damage report covers:

  • Extensive photo and damage documentation
  • Calculation of the repair costs
  • Diminished market value
  • Loss of use or replacement vehicle class
  • Replacement and residual value in the event of a total loss

We inspect your vehicle directly on site – across the whole of Düsseldorf from Bilk to Benrath and Rath, and in the Nuremberg region also in Fürth and Erlangen.

Accident damage to a vehicle

These are the items we secure for you

A complete damage report sets out all claims – not just the bare repair costs.

Repair costs

Verifiable calculation of all necessary repair work including spare parts and paintwork – based on standard market hourly rates.

Diminished market value

Even after a professional repair, an accident vehicle is worth less. We set out this loss in value – a claim that is often lost without a report.

Loss of use

For the time without your vehicle you are entitled to loss-of-use compensation or a hire car – the report determines the relevant vehicle class.

Replacement & residual value

In the event of a total loss, we determine the replacement value and residual value – the basis for a correct settlement with the insurer.

Preservation of evidence

Neutral, legally valid documentation of the damage secures your position – even where fault is disputed or legal proceedings follow later.

Plausibility check

Checking whether damage matches the stated course of the accident – for insurers, buyers or in the event of a dispute.

Vehicle damage reports – good to know

?
Who pays for the damage report?

In an accident that was not your fault, the other party's liability insurer usually covers the cost of the report. For a comprehensive-cover claim, the terms of your own policy apply.

?
May I choose my own expert?

Yes. In a third-party liability claim you have the right to an independent expert of your choice – regardless of the expert appointed by the other party's insurer.

?
How quickly will I receive my report?

As a rule you will have the finished report a few working days after the inspection. In urgent cases we will find a faster solution together so that the settlement can get under way promptly.

?
What does diminished market value mean?

Even after a professional repair, a repaired accident vehicle is worth less on the market than one that has never been in an accident. We set out this diminished market value in the report so that it can form part of your compensation.

?
Should I involve a lawyer?

In many cases legal support is advisable in order to enforce your claims in full after an accident that was not your fault. We work with experienced specialist lawyers with whom we have consistently had good experiences – we are happy to put you in touch, free of charge and without commission.

?
Report or repair quote?

A repair quote only states the repair costs. A report additionally sets out loss in value, loss of use and residual value, and holds up as evidence – for minor damage, a repair quote may be sufficient.

?
What counts as minor damage?

For very small amounts of damage (a guide value of up to around €750), insurers usually do not cover the cost of an expert report. We clarify with you in advance whether your case counts as minor damage.

?
When is there an economic total loss?

An economic total loss exists when the repair costs exceed the replacement value. In the report we determine the replacement value and residual value as the basis for settlement.

?
Do you come to me on site?

In principle, yes. However, since insurers only reimburse travel up to a certain distance, we inspect vehicles within the vicinity of our offices. Feel free to ask – we will check at short notice whether your location is within our catchment area.

?
What applies to hail damage on a motorhome or caravan?

Hail damage is usually covered under comprehensive insurance – here it is generally the insurer itself that commissions the assessment. If you disagree with their assessment, for example regarding the classification as a total loss or the replacement and residual value applied, we provide an independent counter-report on roof, side-wall and body damage to motorhomes or caravans.

Report accident damage & request a report
